Me: Getting this job

Deck: Llewellyn Tarot
Date: 06/12/07 Tuesday
Time: ended 9:05pm
Spread: (on-the-spot) Two Paths
Querent: Self

Spread: Two Paths
This spread was created on-the-spot while shuffling the deck and figuring out which spread would work best for this query.
1——4
2–7–5
3——6

1, 2, and 3 describe the first situation. 4, 5, and 6 describe the alternative situation. 7 represents the root of the situation, an important factor in the outcome.

Reading
If I get the job: Emperor (Bran), 9 of Wands RV, Page of Pents
If I don’t get the job: 3 of Swords, 9 of Pents RV, Ace of Swords
Root of situation: King of Swords

Clearly the better path lies in getting the job. The Emperor implies feeling like (or being) king of a castle, in full control of life and responsibilities, and it’s a comfortable throne indeed. Bran is the very picture of success. The 9W-RV confused me more than any other. I think it means getting through a time of strife (job search? Div 3? college?) and now coming into a calmer side of life, despite the previous hardships. The Page of Pents says a lot about what this job would be. It’s my first job that’s really earning a living for myself, and also it would have a lot of learning about finances, both for myself and for my job.

This promising picture of what it would be like to get the job makes not getting the job even more disappointing — though perhaps the less than rosy outcome is more due to feelings of betrayal and heartbreak (3S) rather than due to a disastrous situation. Certainly there’s not as much financial stability (9P-RV), but in the end I’d know the truth, even if it hurts (AS).

The root of the situation card, King of Swords, is interesting. Interpreting the card, this king can cut through the bullshit, figure out the truth, and figure out what to do with that knowledge to best suit his needs. But more interesting is the energy of the card and how it seems to point to the left-hand column, the one representing getting the job. The sword points to that column, and the birds on the right of the image are flying towards the left. This could imply that getting the job is the more likely situation.
