Me: Cards for today

March 22, 2007 § Leave a comment

Deck: Llewellyn Tarot
Date: 03/22/07 Thursday (waxing moon)
Time: ended 9:34pm
Spread: Message for Today
Querent: Self

What’s the most important message for today?
King of Cups RV
Not sure what this means. Maybe don’t let emotional/relationship pursuits drive you? Don’t get caught up in thinking about relationships?

Can you clarify?
3 of Wands RV
You won’t be successful in your work (thesis work) if you focus on your emotions like that.

Okay, so what can I do to change it?
10 of Swords RV
Rise above the challenge, like this character is rising above the many swords (when reversed). Realize that you can pull yourself out of your situation with force of will and not giving up.

(This spread came with the Llewellyn Tarot.)

—–3———-
–2—-4——-
1——–5—-7
————6—
(It’s supposed to be the shape of a curved dragon.)

  1. The Dream: your heart’s desire
  2. Your Companions: the assistance you will receive
  3. The Journey: unfamiliar places you must go to realize the dream
  4. Magical Gifts: new skills required for success
  5. The Enchantment: hidden obstacles along the path
  6. The Dragon: what you must befriend, sacrifice, or defeat ((or defend))
  7. The Awakening: the final outcome of your efforts

Spread: Llew’s Spread (Llewellyn Tarot)

March 20, 2007 § Leave a comment

(This comes from the Llewellyn Tarot, but I think it needs some adapting, even though it’s a good start.)

—3—
2-1-4
—5—

  1. Sun: Always place the sun card in the center. This card brings the hidden aspects of the situation to light.
  2. Dawn: Represents the situation that is manifesting.
  3. Noon: Represents the issues that cannot be ignored.
  4. Dusk: Represents the help you will receive.
  5. Midnight: Represents the resolution of the situation.

If anything, my first instinct is to reverse the meaning of the second two places. Midnight seems more like help, or perhaps in that position it could be an issue that is being ignored or that is not being seen (in contrast to the obvious noon-position issue), whereas Dusk seems more like the resolution part.

Reading for Self: Spread of the Day

Deck: Llewellyn Tarot
Date: 03/15/07 Thursday (waning moon)
Time: ended 11:24pm
Spread: Message for Tomorrow (spread of the day – three cards)
Querent: Self

13-Transformation-Ukemochi — 4 of Staves — 9-Contemplation-Chang O

(Death — 4W — Hermit)

The overall beauty of this spread, just to look at visually, is really fascinating. Transformation looks like morning, excitement, new starts; 4S looks like high noon, charged, grounded, successful; Contemplation looks like evening or night.

Spread: Celtic Cross Spread

March 8, 2007 § Leave a comment

Here’s a really good description of the Celtic Cross spread. It also has three examples of how it’s used, following one story. The following is an excerpt from this website.

The Layout:
–5—–10
4-1-6—-9
–3——8
———7
(card 2 is crossed over card 1)

Here is one approach to interpreting the Celtic Cross.

  1. Look at the six cards of the Circle/Cross section. They show what is going on in your life at the moment of the reading.
  2. Examine the cards in pairs, perhaps in the following order:
    * Look at Cards 1 and 2 to find out the central dynamic.
    * Look at Cards 3 and 5 to find out what is going on within you at different levels.
    * Look at Cards 4 and 6 to see how people and events are flowing through your life.
From these six cards, create a description of your immediate situation.
  3. Consider the Staff section of the spread, perhaps in this order:
    * Look at Cards 7 and 8 to find out how more about the relationship between you and your environment.
    * Look at Card 10 – the projected outcome. How do you feel about it? What does it say to you?
  4. Review the cards to discover the factors leading to the outcome. See if one card stands out as key. Also:
    * Compare the projected outcome (Card 10) to a possible alternative outcome (Card 5).
    * Consider how the near future (Card 6) contributes to the projected outcome (Card 10).
    * See if Card 9 tells you something you need to know. Do you have a hope or fear that is relevant?

Three Card Motto (2)

March 8, 2007 § Leave a comment

Deck: Llewellyn Tarot
Date: 03/08/07 Thursday (waning moon in Scorpio)
Time: ended 12:25 pm
Spread: Three Card Motto

9 of Wands RV — 5 of Swords — Knight of Cups RV

Motto: You can’t win the hearts of others when you’re weighed down by past sorrows and defeat.
OR: We are only truly defeated when we dwell on our sorrows.

Commentary: I must say that I’m surprised to see 5S come up again. I saw this for yesterday’s card of the day, and also for a more personal spread, and in both I though it was representing my senior thesis and my attitude towards it. Perhaps the cards are saying this motto is important for me to consider for my thesis work? This motto is definitely something that I’ve recently come to realize about my work: that I can’t just dwell and obsess over failings and challenges in my thesis, but I need to pick up the pieces and have a more positive outlook, and also include other aspects of my life.

Reading for Self: A Friend Visits

March 8, 2007 § Leave a comment

Deck: Llewellyn Tarot
Date: 03/08/07 Thursday (waning moon in Scorpio)
Time: ended 12:10 am
Spread: (question-based, no set spread … but this time I seemed to be drawn to putting cards in order from right to left, I just went with it, not sure why though)
Querent: Self
Background: A friend of my boyfriend (O) is visiting soon and I wanted to get some feedback on how to approach him, as I’ve never met him and I don’t know too much about him, but I will be spending a good deal of time socializing with him.

What is the one thing I need to know about O?
11-Justice-Lady of the Fountain
He is fair in how he views the world and others, quiet and nonjudgmental, able to see past insignificant details in people to see what’s really there. I’m especially drawn to the darkness that the figure seems to be walking out of, perhaps indicating some difficult times this person has recently been through. Due to the giant tree in the background, I think he is measured, patient, and has a strong sense of self, also complex and multi-faceted.
